Bere Island Projects Group, the West Cork Islands community council and the West Cork Islands interagency Group were delighted to see that Island farmers are now a specific category of farmers under the areas of natural constraints, in the new rural development programme. We would like to thank Minister Coveney for all his help in achieving this. This is due to the high costs of farming on the Islands and has come about because of a lot of work between Island organisations in Ireland and Europe in partnership with the IFA. This is a great step forward for Island farmers and Islands in general.
